About Me

Hello EDU 422! My name is Stephanie Campbell and I am 22 years young. I currently am in my last semester here at CSUSM and am applying for the concurrent teaching credential program. I would love to teach mild to moderate special education at the middle to high school level. As for my education, I attended Alamosa Park Elementary in Oceanside, CA for kindergarten and 1st grade. At Alamosa, I was diagnosed with a minor learning disability that caused me to be delayed in my reading and writing development. Although I was only 6 years old, I remember feeling like an outsider because of my delayed learning. Going into 2nd grade, Alamosa decided to out me in the special education program. Lets just say my mom did not agree with that choice and decided to enroll me in St. Francis, a private school.  I attended St. Francis from 2nd-8th grade. I believe that the switch from a public education to a private education allowed me to not be labeled by my disability and empowered me to never settle. After middle school, I attended Rancho Buena Vista HS for my freshman year of high school and Vista HS for my sophomore - senior years of high school. I loved high school and excelled in my education.  After high school, I attend Palomar college for 3 years where I completed all of my lower division classes. Currently, I am in my last semester as an undergrad and have enjoyed my college experience.

As for technology, I have always been a person that has had to figure things out on my own and I find myself doing that with technology. I am pretty good at working with computers and on the internet, but find myself getting very frustrated with cell phones. I have never had a good experience with my cell phones and I find myself getting into physical fights with them. Other than that, I believe that computers and technology have been a huge part of my success and development in school.

As for the College of Education mission statement, the part that speaks volumes to me is when they say,

"Our practices demonstrate a commitment to student centered education."

I highly believe in the student centered philosophy of teaching, because it puts the student at the forefront of education and gives them the tools to become independent learners and individuals. I believe that teachers are needed to put the tools in front of the student to learn, not force them to learn and make education a task. Teachers need to create life long learners and hope that each student uses their tools to rebuild and better society -->

  1. Stephanie, I have the same physical fights with my computer! I believe that technology and computers have been a huge part in everyone's education and it seems that our generation has seen the most increase in technology because so many people always seem to have and brag about the latest version of iphone they have.
    PS; Nice background :)

  2. Great move by mom! I dont think there is anything wrong with private schools or alternative education for that matter. I identified with the life long learning section too but your ideas have struck me as something i need to integrate into my idea of life long learning in the idea of creating life long learning. Thanks!!

  3. I'm a substitute for the Vista School district and I have actually worked at Alamosa! It's a really cute school. Like yourself, I also value student-centered education. I think its really important to gear students and make education fun!
