School 2.0

NETS - I
School 2.0 assessed my answers regarding the NETS Standards and suggested websites that can aid in my understanding of those standards. I chose to research the NETS-I Module. The website suggested a YouTube video by Sir Ken Robinson.

I chose to research NETS-T Module 1: Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity.  I believe that a very important ability that teachers must be able to is to, "... enable students to use technology to demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes" (School 2.0). The website suggested that I look at a link titled, "Creativity and Schools-Sir Ken Robinson". Sir Ken Robinson is a true education reformist. He believes that our public educational system is killing the innate creativity that all students are born with. Sir Ken Robinson opened my eyes to the idea that children are all born with creativity and schools kill that creativity by forcing priority on subjects only using the left hemisphere of the brain.  Robinson states,"We do not grow into creativity; we grow out of it." Schools need to start embracing creativity as a part of education. The whole idea of creativity is to do what one feels, even if failure is the end result. We need to empower students to try new things and learn from their mistakes. It is in our nature to fail, but it is how we recover and grow from our failures that is the true reward.
